COE Fall 2003 Conference & TechniFair Wrap up

In one of the most successful conferences to date, nearly 1,300 users, Dassault Systemes and IBM-PLM representatives, and third-party vendor representatives gathered in Seattle for the COE Fall 2003 Conference & TechniFair—the largest international event dedicated to the CATIA, ENOVIA, DELMIA, and SMARTEAM user community. The focus of the event was to help users "take the lead" by "working together with PLM" and attendees divided their time between the many professional enrichment opportunities to do just that, including networking events, exciting keynotes, nearly 160 technical and training sessions, and the wall-to-wall solutions of the TechniFair.

Featured Speakers Kick Things Off
Attendees gathered early to make sure that they got a seat to hear Alan Mulally, Executive Vice President of The Boeing Company, explain how V5 CATIA, ENOVIA, and DELMIA help Boeing continue to lead the further development of a safe and efficient global air transportation system. Then Bernard Charles, Dassault Systemes' President, took the stage to address recent and future developments in PLM technology and how PLM will help customers "win through innovation." After a quick stretch break, IBM's Walter Donaldson explained to attendees how PLM is changing the playing field and what opportunities are available through PLM.

In Tuesday morning's general session, Sherill Novosad from Pratt & Whitney Corp. explained the steps that Pratt & Whitney Canada is taking to achieve the complete PLM vision through their Digital Enterprise program. Tuesday evening was wrapped up by the Open Forum. Six key industry leaders were onstage during the open forum to answer a wide variety of attendee's questions and concerns.

Wednesday's highlights included, Dr. Marco Cavazzoni, Boeing, giving an in-depth presentation on the appeal of the V5 PLM Tool Suite from a business perspective and how PLM has transformed Boeing. The Wednesday General Session wound up with  John Switlik of Boeing's presentation of "Geometric/Knowledge Modeling Challenges."

Breakout Sessions
The bulk of the conference schedule featured nearly 160 user-focused, educational breakout sessions delivered by speakers in every industry, from both small and large enterprises worldwide, and covering everything from data management, functionality, product updates, support, and implementation. More than 45 companies from around the world offered speakers, including Boeing, Purdue University, Jaguar, Black & Decker, Cessna, Johnson Controls, and more!

COE Education and Training
The COE training session line-up once again provided in-depth and guided hands-on access to specific aspects of the generally available Dassault Systemes suite or complementary software. Attendees gained valuable skills to take back to their jobs through the detailed product information, hands-on training, best practices and operational process methods, and live demonstrations.

TechniFair
In addition to the unique educational opportunities available at the conference, attendees were able to visit and chat with more than 40 vendors in the COE TechniFair. TechniFair visitors participated in everything from hands-on demos and product test-driving, to the TechniFly game, where fabulous prizes were awarded, including a Sony PlayStation 2, a Digital Camera, a Palm Pilot, a portable MP3 Player, and an American Express Gift Certificate, just to name a few.

Networking
And no COE conference experience would be complete without the many planned and informal networking opportunities, where attendees mingled with their peers in relaxed social settings, like Birds-of-a-Feather conference lunches and refreshment breaks, the Sunday Conference Orientation and Networking Reception, the TechniFair Grand Opening, and the activities and festivities of the TechniLunch and TechniBash!

Award Winner
Jim Strawn, Cessna Aircraft, was the winner of the COE Award of Merit for his years of work as a leading citizen of the COE Community.

COE "Ask the Expert" Teleconference
CATIA V4/V5 Interoperability

by Frederic Beaudin, Senior Consultant, Dassault Systemes Services - Americas

Register now for this teleconference.

COE’s first “Ask the Expert” Teleconference was so successful that we have decided to include them as a regular membership benefit. The next teleconference will be presented on November 13, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. Central Time.

Fredic Deaudin will kick off the “Ask the Expert” Teleconference with his presentation “CATIA V4/V5 Interoperability.” This presentation was one of the most popular sessions at the COE Fall 2003 Conference & TechniFair. If you were unable to attend the conference, or missed out on this session while in Seattle, this is your chance to hear it first hand.

This “Ask the Expert” Teleconference will cover V4/V5 interoperability concerning the use of V4 data in V5: assembly, design in context, drafting, and DMU solutions. It will also go into depth about migration of V4 geometric data to V5 with an emphasis on solids and surfaces: re-route capabilities after solid migration, consequences of curvature continuity and CATIA settings on V4 surface data migration to V5. Migration of V4 application data to V5: kinematics, sheetmetal, and how to save V5 data in V4 formats: “Save as model” and “save as session” will also be covered. There will be a question and answer period at the conclusion of the teleconference so be prepared to “Ask the Expert.”

Frederic Beaudin is a senior consultant at Dassault Systemes Services - Americas. His recent experience includes two years in Dassault Systemes offices in France working on V4/V5 interoperability, training and consulting. Since May 2002, he is the Dassault Systemes assignee at Pratt & Whitney Canada, helping to implement CATIA and ENOVIA VPM/Portal Solutions as part of the Digital Engine program. He spoke several times at COE conferences and he is a two-time winner of the "best presentation" prize in the Information Management category.

This is a great way to maximize your education and training budget without costly travel fees. You can attend this teleconference right from your workspace; all you need is a telephone.

The cost of this “Ask the Expert” Teleconference is only $49 for COE members and $69 for non-members.

Spots are filling up fast, so register now.
