Infrastructure at the COE 2001 Spring Conference
By Gary Hornyak, PIC Infrastructure Division Manager, IBM Corporation

The dictionary defines infrastructure as "the basic installations and facilities on which the continuation and growth of a community depend," so please plan to join us at the COE 2001 Spring conference where we will discuss:

  • The infrastructure issues for you to successfully implement the Digital Enterprise Vision. The Infrastructure Division of COE includes the following Process Interest Committees (PICs):
    • KBE "Knowledge Based Engineering"
    • SYS "Systems And Application Administration "
    • SQA "Software Quality Assurance"
    • TR "Training"

At the COE 2001 Spring in Anaheim California, we will have many sessions presented from COE member companies, hardware providers, business partners and complimentary solutions providers to help you with the selection of hardware, defining the architecture and implementing the Dassault and ENOVIA products at your company. Sessions on capturing and reusing company expertise in both design and manufacturing will be presented in the KBE break out sessions. In order to get the most productivity from the Dassault/ENOVIA products, the proper hardware must be selected. In the SYS breakout sessions, there will be presentations given to aid in the proper selection of workstations and servers for the CATIA and ENOVIA products, plus many other sessions to assist and provide guidance with system implementation issues. Even though the Dassault and ENOVIA products are fun and easy to use, providing additional training to the user is important to get the most productivity in your specific environment. Breakout sessions in the TR committee will discuss training tips and techniques to optimize the education process. In the SQA PIC, breakout sessions covering worldwide support options and other topics related to software quality assurance will be presented.

On behalf of all of the PICs in the Infrastructure Division, we look forward to seeing you in Anaheim California.

Current Dassault Development Status & Insight at COE 2001 Spring
By Catherine Bell

The COE 2001 Spring conference provides you an important opportunity to meet with the Dassault Systemes developers to give them your requirements and help define upcoming products. Check out the online schedule or brochure for the Development Planning Council (DPC) Sessions. For example, the Digital Product Synthesis (DPS) committee has a strategy session on Monday, April 2 from 4:15 to 5:45 pm. In the strategy session, Severin Lanfranchi and Jean- Louis Constans will demonstrate the present and future direction of the DMU Navigator, Fitting Simulation, Image Design, Visualization Studio, Space Analysis and Navigation and 3D COM products. They will also demonstrate the "human solution" with integration of the SAFEWORKS products inside ENOVIA/DMU and the multicad capabilities of the products (reading not only CATIA but PROE, IDEAS.) You'll see the latest functions and capabilities and still have time to get ready for the Technibash. On Tuesday, April 3, there is a working session from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. You will be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement because this is where new enhancement requests are generated. The working sessions are collaborative exchanges with the developers allowing participating companies to suggest process- driven enhancement requests. The requests from previous conferences are tracked in the strategic enhancement request (SER) database and their status is reported during the working sessions.

No matter which Development Planning Council sessions you choose to attend there are plenty of opportunities for you to meet the committee members, collaborate with the developers, and participate to get your company's requirements included in future software enhancements.
