North Texas CATIA Regional Users Group Status

The North Texas CATIA Regional Users Group hosted their third meeting on May 3rd. Despite rainy weather and a last minute change of venue, the meeting went off without a hitch with about 50 attendees representing various local companies. Following the opening, a few business items, including the mission statement and code of conduct, were voted on. Next, Deidra Donald provided a comprehensive presentation on the DELMIA Process Engineer product and its applications. A morning break, sponsored by MSC.Software, allowed everyone a chance to chat over coffee and snacks. Following the break, Shawn Hamell provided an overview and demonstration of the FARO arm as it applies to digital inspection, as well as reverse engineering applications. Chris Cripps of MSC.Software followed up with a presentation of the CATCMM product and its applications available in CATIA V4. Lunch was provided on-site and sponsored by IBM-PLM Solutions. This allowed everyone to stay on campus and get acquainted with the other RUG attendees from various local companies. After lunch, Lee Harmon of IBM presented the first of a series on CATIA V4 to V5 interoperability. Since most of the attending companies are involved in the migration from V4 to V5, this presentation was of great interest. Following an afternoon break sponsored by INCAT, Luis Tovar of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics presented an overview of the various CATSettings available in V5 and the issues involved with managing the settings in order to achieve the desired V5 environment. A survey was also distributed to allow the RUG attendees an opportunity to convey their interests to the RUG governing committee for future planning.

Many thanks go out to IBM, MSC.Software, and INCAT for sponsoring the breaks and lunch at the RUG meeting. Additional thanks go out to all of those who provided presentations and support for the RUG meeting. Plans are in the works for the next meeting to be held on August 9th at the same location. Mark your calendar and we'll see you there! For more details on upcoming events and contacts, visit www.vought.com/ntcoe/.

News from GLACOe

The members of GLACOe met on March 19th, opening with an introduction of the new officers. Jim Cleland of DaimlerChrysler presided as president, Sam Benton of TAC as vice-president, and John Boustead of Plastech Engineering as secretary. Attendees then received an in-depth look at the new additions to V5 introduced with R8 from George Boustead of Dassault Systemes. They also saw a demonstration of the Inspect module form Roy Smolky of DELMIA. These presentations were followed by Dave Pallister and Shekhar Tommundrum of DaimlerChrysler, who gave everyone a DaimlerChrysler update and a peak at Part System Viewer, a new tool they are currently piloting internally and plan to make available to their suppliers later this year. The next meeting is scheduled for May 21st at 8:00 a.m. in the Engineering Building at Oakland Community College.
