California State University, Los Angeles and Northrop Grumman Project

A team of three senior mechanical engineering students in the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology at California State University Los Angeles comprised of De San, David Meyer, and Jose Cano are involved with an exciting project. The project is sponsored by Northrop Grumman and requires the student team to design a handling fixture to move the James Webb Space Telescope during its development at numerous facilities. The telescope will launch in 2011, yet construction begins in 2005. It will be the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope but, much more powerful.

The final product will be modeled using CATIA V5 and analyzed using some of the tools available through the program. The fixture must be analyzed to meet stress, stability and material requirements as provided by Northrop Grumman.
