Preparing for the Future
I am proud to have been active in this organization for the last 8 years & seeing the growth in our conferences & activities. At a personal level I've also found it a growth experience & have learned & honed some skills. I'm a firm believer in new blood & fresh ideas; therefore the board has implemented some term limits which limit the length of time members can be on the Board. Part of this proposal also included the position of President elect, that is, naming a Board member as the Next President of the organization. This allows for a smooth 1 year transition to the next President.
I'm glad to announce formally that Scott Baker has been appointed President-Elect. Scott has been on the board for the last 3 years & has shown excellent leadership qualities during his stewardship of the Governance committee, as well as chairing our Automotive event & strategy track at national conferences. I will stay on the board, at least for one year, as non voting past-president.
At the spring conference Nathan Nalven was elected to the board. Nate has been active in the organization for many years, first as a committee chair & more recently as manager of the Product Definition division in the Process Interest Committee (PIC) organization. Nate will initially work as head of the Governance committee. Other board roles & responsibilities for 2004 - 2005 are:

I'd like to thank Steve Lynn for his dedication over the years to COE, In addition to running our Development Planning Council Steve has also been our Treasurer. Steve will continue to be active in the DPC organization, helping Jeff Schiesser overcome the challenges that moving to a single national conference & multiple regional events present to the DPC.
From time to time, someone will contact me & say "Can't COE make this or that happen?" My response is always yes YOU can. The message being that COE is not a third party; it is made up of people from member companies volunteering their time to achieve things in the best interest of all COE member companies. Get involved, volunteer your time, whether as a speaker, a committee chair or in a Board position. I am sure you will find that it will help not only your company, but yourself as well.
