COE Your Way 2005 Industry Workshop – Automotive Wrap-Up
The second annual COE Fall Automotive Workshop held in at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, Michigan exceeded expectations. Change seems to be the operative word, with over 400 attendees having the opportunity hear presentations from Laurie Felix-Harbour - The Competitive Picture and the Need for Change, Product Development Process Revolution by Mark Chernoby of DaimlerChrysler, David Goerlitz of MSC - Driving Revenue Growth through Innovation, Globally Leveraging CATIA V5 at Ford to Fully Achieve GPDS Efficiencies by Peter Lamoureux of Ford, and Randy Swan of Borg Warner’s presentation, Managing Processes Using Workflow and SMARTEAM. OEM’s, Tier Ones, Business Partners, Dassault/IBM, and others all had their chance to share their ideas on change in the auto industry.
Over 400 people attended over 50 different events, including a solutions fair with 30 suppliers showing their latest technology. These same vendors volunteered to conduct 9 training workshops using 30 hands on workstations with overflowing attendance. As an added bonus, the workshop had a special track dedicated to ICEM, one of the latest partnerships with Dassault Systemes. Also, COE worked out the opportunity to co-locate with the annual DELMIA conference, allowing attendees the opportunity to conveniently attend 2 back to back conferences. All in all, everyone had a chance to fill their minds.
A Workshop with this type of content takes a lot of time and hard work. Representatives from 10 of COE’s member companies came together to put on together an excellent program to educate our automotive industry. COE would like to express our appreciation for all of their hard work.
It sure has been a great two years at the Fall COE Automotive Workshop. Make sure you mark your calendar for next year; October 9-10 at the Dearborn Hyatt Regency. If you really want to expand your knowledge, plan on attending the COE Spring Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia March 19-22, 2006. See the COE website for details.
COE 2005 Aerospace Workshop – Looking Back…
COE sponsored its second Aerospace Workshop in Wichita, Kansas, the Airplane Capital of the World (please note the Wichita airport signage) on 17 - 18 October 2005. It was an enormous success. There were 485 attendees…almost a 10% increase over 2004 representing nearly 75 companies. There were more than 200 first time attendees. Eight percent of the companies represented have less than 5 users, 33% of the companies have 6 – 249 users and 59% of the companies have more than 250 users. There were 24 international attendees and there were 11 new companies represented by 16 attendees. The workshop planning committee represented 15 different aerospace enterprises. There were 30 third-party vendors actively involved in supporting this workshop. With thanks to IBM and Hewlett Packard we had more than 50 fully configured workstations onsite to support our COE University which offered 11 classes. There were nearly 50 sessions organized around 9 strategic tracks.
COE is particularly appreciative to:
- Its platinum sponsors
- Dassault Systemes
- IBM
- Intel
- Its gold sponsor
- Its silver sponsor
The COE mission is to provide a collaborative forum that drives innovation and maximizes productivity through the exploitation of CAx/PDM technology and services provided by Dassault Systemes, IBM and partners. With this mission in mind the workshop focused on product engineering issues as addressed by CATIA technology, life cycle management and decision issues with our focus on ENOVIA and SMARTEAM technology and manufacturing technology with our DELMIA focus.
We recruited an executive contact from each of these organizations and they identified issues that were ‘hot’ and current for them. These executives then volunteered to organize and manage a workshop track focused around their ‘hot’ issue. Nine successful tracks were established and well-presented.
The COE Industry Workshop Objectives were to provide an innovative and creative forum to:
- Network and collaborate on both technical and business issues and ideas surrounding PLM solutions today
- Educate our members on the technical and business issues surrounding these PLM solutions
- Build awareness of the PLM solutions offered by IBM, DS and their partners
- Establish product requirements necessary to further a successful development of new technologies in these products
- Hear best practices from industry leaders
And more succinctly share experiences, share knowledge and trade business cards.
A special thanks to the workshop planning committee, track executives and those that contributed to make the workshop such a success.
