Knowledge Technology

At COE, the DPC and the Roundtable

The KBE DPC heard discussions about the fragmented nature of the knowledge workbenches.

A new EKL (Engineering Knowledge Language) from Dassault has been embedded within CATIA v5r16 that will allow a more cohesive joining of knowledge elements. EKL uses v5 representation and has a template orientation. EKL is interpreted and procedural. The language can be extended with CAA or BKT.

A KBE Roundtable held a question and response session. This allowed a large number of inputs that will be organized by Dr. Brian Prasad. One topic concerned the future. There is interest in more time and visibility at the next COE.

Another topic at the Roundtable dealt with the status of the “Best Practices in KBE” document. Brian is gathering material for this document and serving as Editor. The following is the Table of Contents:

  • 1.0 Introduction
  • 2.0 KBE Concepts
  • 3.0 KBE Rule Languages
  • 4.0 Feature-based Modeling Concepts
  • 5.0 Assembly Modeling Concepts
